The Houston City Council approved a $7.3 billion budget Wednesday, increasing the total by $1.1 billion above last year.

The city still has a $192 million deficit, the Houston Chronicle reports.

Houston Information Technology Services’ (HITS) $103.3 million budget shows cybersecurity spending continues to rise along with enterprise applications.

Cybersecurity will have $7.5 million, up from $5.8 million last year, and enterprise applications will have $22.6 million, up from $20.2 million.

HITS' strategic priorities are to optimize city operations, improve data-driven decision-making, engage citizens and inspire and empower employees to do their best work.

Supporting 24 departments and about 13,000 full-time city employees, HITS has about 212 full-time positions, according to the documents. HITS is tasked with multiple programs such as city 311 services, cybersecurity, end-user computing, public safety tech, courts IT support and telecommunications support.
