Houston IT Recruiting for App Support, Business Analysis, Network Roles

Two of the department’s three job openings would report to Houston IT’s enterprise application services division, and the third job would fall under enterprise infrastructure services.

Houston Information Technology Services (HITS) is looking to fill three IT-related job openings in applications support, business analysis and enterprise network and data services roles.

The first position is a senior IT professional role focused on application support. According to the job listing, the chosen candidate will “provide production support to business-critical applications.”

Daily duties include:
  • Developing and troubleshooting custom applications and interfaces using programming languages within the city’s .NET stack 
  • Working at the highest technical level of all phases of applications systems analysis and support activities 
  • Coordinating meetings and requirement gathering sessions for the support activities and enhancement requests 
  • Ensuring customers’ business requirements are fully understood, documented, communicated and acted upon  
  • Coordinating change management and release activities 
  • Providing mentoring and training to other team members as needed  
  • Performing a variety of IT-related development management and support activities for any assigned department or division
The position has an annual salary range of $81,822 to $106,489. Minimum requirements include having a bachelor’s degree in computer science, management and information systems, plus at least six years of technology experience supporting applications.

Second is a job opening for an IT architect focused on business analysis. According to the job listing, the chosen candidate will ensure that technology services provided to HIT customers align with their overall business strategy.

Specific responsibilities include:
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with business partners and acting as a liaison between information services teams and the business partner 
  • Managing and mentoring a business relationship manager team that builds and manages strategic relationships with business partners 
  • Acting as an adviser to business partners to shape their strategy about technology and ensure they are aware of IT service offerings 
  • Promoting business projects and value to the IT leaders and community 
  • Working with business analysts to help their business units define new capabilities 
  • Helping define and communicate new services to support business needs 
  • Participating in the development of business strategic planning and IT strategic planning 
  • Assisting in the development of metrics used to track value delivery 
  • Providing details on cost, value and opportunities to optimize IT spend 
  • Serving as the business relationship connector between city departments and HITS 
  • Working closely with assigned business areas to plan, deliver and sustain deployed solutions 
The position has an annual salary range of $115,000 to $125,000. Minimum requirements include having a bachelor’s degree in computer science, management and information systems, and PMI certifications, plus at least 10 years of specialized experience in business systems analysis and design.

Third is an IT architect position focused on enterprise network and data services. According to the job listing, the chosen candidate will “provide technical guidance to the enterprise network and data services team of operations and maintenance analysts, technicians and engineers and perform... analysis and troubleshooting of complex software, hardware and transmission facilities.”

The candidate will play a major role in the overall network architecture, provide technical guidance to junior team members, complete tasks at the highest level of technical difficulty and maintain professional communication with business stakeholders and customers.

The agency is seeking those with a solid understanding of network security best practices, both theoretical and applied, and an ability to adhere to all cybersecurity policies and procedures to ensure the confidentiality, integrity and availability of critical systems.

The position has an annual salary range of $126,100 to $140,000. Minimum requirements include having a bachelor’s degree in computer science, management and information systems, multiple system-specific technical certifications and at least 10 years of specialized experience in IT infrastructure systems.
