Irving Continues Installing Outdoor Wi-Fi

The city is using ARPA funding for various projects including phase two of this connectivity project. Councilmembers in May approved various tech spending.

Irving recently awarded an outdoor Wi-Fi project funded through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), which has a Dec. 31, 2024, obligation deadline.

Solid IT Networks in Houston won a $407,547 contract to provide outdoor wireless LAN, wireless backhaul, support equipment and installation. A request for proposals went out Feb. 19 on the city’s Ion Wave platform.

The City Council approved the contract during the May 30 meeting as part of the consent agenda.

The council also approved regular spending on:
  • $370,923 to Tyler Technologies for Munis ERP annual maintenance
  • $157,945 to Vertosoft for CaseWare Budget Book software
  • $125,000 to Carahsoft Technology for software, products and related services
  • $76,284 for a master order addendum to Black Box Network Services for a phone system upgrade
Irving has about 241,000 residents and 2,050 employees. The city budget for FY2024 was $998.8 million, and the fiscal year runs from Oct. 1 to Sept. 30.

It also purchases through cooperative programs such as BuyBoard and Texas Department of Information Resources contracts, according to meeting documentation.
