Katy Schools Seek $84M for New Tech in Upcoming Bond

The projects funded would include cloud infrastructure services, Chromebooks for K-12 students, security camera upgrades and a printer retrofit.

Just in time for the new school year, Katy Independent School District (ISD), which comprises 84,176 students, has earmarked $83,567,360 for new technology in its proposed 2023 bond.

The district encompasses approximately 181 square miles in southeast Texas, with its eastern boundaries stretching to Houston’s energy corridor about 16 miles west of downtown Houston and extending along Interstate 10 a few miles west of the city.

Here, with rounding, are the funds Katy ISD has allocated for new tech in its Proposed 2023 Bond:

  • $16 million for Chromebooks to create a 1:1 ratio of laptops for K-12 students
  • $14 million for life safety and special systems upgrades
  • $5 million for wireless upgrades
  • $4 million for network switch replacements
  • $2 million for server life cycle and growth
  • $1 million for a copier retrofit
  • $1 million for a phone system upgrade
  • $885,013 for cloud infrastructure services
  • $734,000 for cybersecurity infrastructure
  • $484,120 for uninterruptible power supply upgrades
  • $421,578 for a printer retrofit
