Matagorda County is in recovery from a cybersecurity attack announced last week, according to its Office of Emergency Management.

The office has been posting updates about a malware infection to its Facebook page since Jan. 24.

“Coordinating efforts to restore county service and capabilities continues as we work with other agency partners. We ask for your continued patience and understanding as mitigation efforts continue,” Matagorda County Judge Bobby Seiferman said in a statement. “This involves not only the installation of anti-virus software and firewalls but also the implementation of comprehensive data protection solutions, encryption tools and real-time threat monitoring systems.”

The posts disclose that malware was found on some internal systems, which were isolated.
