A crucial state agency seeks bids for procurement and installation of microwave intrusion detection systems for multiple sites, according to the invitations for bids due throughout August, at least one as early as Aug. 2.

The Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) is seeking the bids. The agency manages inmates in state prisons, state jails and private correctional facilities contracted with the state. It also provides funding and some oversight of community supervision.

The department employs some 323,000 people and has a total budget of more than $126 billion, according to Industry Navigator*. The TDCJ strategic plan for 2023-27 was published in June.

Vendors are invited to bid on an installation for the fencing systems that require technical components such as communications boxes, sensor detectors, data storage and user interfaces. The documents also call for a Linux controller platform.

Vendors will:
  • Provide and install new and complete microwave fencing to include controls, wiring, power, data cable, monitoring and mounting.
  • Provide power to fencing system and run electrical conduit and wiring.
  • Calibrate and test the system.

The detailed specifications for data, communications and monitoring can be found under the section header “Principals of Operation and System Capabilities.”

Sealed bids are due on various dates in August; no faxed or emailed bids will be accepted. Each location has an individual bid request published at the TxSmartBuy website; the agency member number for the Electronic State Business Daily Search is 696.
