A request for qualifications (RFQ) has been released for a construction manager at risk, the first in a potential three-step process for awarding such a contract.

MD Anderson Cancer Center seeks to replace its universal power supply (UPS) systems – 1MC data center with a budget limit of $4.2 million and deadline of Nov. 3.

The center, just more than 80 years old, is part of the University of Texas System. The designated comprehensive cancer center is comprised of 130 buildings including its Houston location.

“The 1MC Data Center UPS infrastructure needs replacement due to life cycle and business operation demand on the server load,” according to the RFQ for project No. FPDC- 210065.

Requirements for the chosen architect/engineer include:
  • Conduct assessment for expansion.
  • Review a 7,000-square-foot area to add power and HVAC cooling.
  • Upgrade utility infrastructure.
  • Additional items to support a decade of anticipated growth.

Once the RFQs have been received, the center will rank respondents. Next, a request will be made for additional information from the top-ranked respondents. The third step is for the center to interview qualified respondents to identify the best value. An award is expected in March and work in May.

MD Anderson posts opportunities and bid documents at the SciQuest platform. Guicela Salazar is the point of contact for this request; the pre-submittal conference was Thursday [Oct. 27] but not required.
