Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, the nation’s second-busiest, has unveiled upcoming bid opportunities including $50 million earmarked for a multiyear automated access control project and $6 million for solar lights. Discussion included opportunities to be released during the second and third quarters.

The Business Opportunity Forum was presented in video, screened in person in Colleyville and online via Zoom call. It featured sweeping views of the airport, highlighted touchpoints and was narrated by airport leadership.

Bruce D. Collins, vice president of procurement and materials management, noted that an airport buying plan has been released for the first time.

“Consolidating contract opportunities in this buying plan provides suppliers in the business community time to learn, prepare and plan for upcoming opportunities,” Collins said. “It allows businesses the time they need to develop partnerships to effectively participate as subcontractors and prime contractors.”

Upcoming opportunities reflect the airport’s strategic plan, titled “Travel. Transformed.” Airport transformation includes a digital road map featuring:
  • Data collection and analytics
  • Internet of Things plan
  • Biometrics
  • Electric vehicle blueprint studies

Procurement opportunities include IT needs embedded in various projects and will be posted in Bonfire, to which procurement has migrated.

IT Services has these soon-to-close opportunities:
  • An emergency conference telephone system, due June 23.
  • A comprehensive wireless platform, due July 8.

The airport has recently achieved the status of the second-busiest by reporting 62.5 million passengers in 2021, moving up in the ranks. It is the third-busiest operationally, with a goal to be No. 1 in both categories, according to the presentation.

The 27-square-mile special district directly employs 200,000 people, generates $37 billion for the North Texas economy and is larger than Manhattan.

DFW Airport will post Friday’s video presentation to its YouTube channel, where the 2021 year in review is featured.
