The budget overview lists $4.8 million for hardware and storage updates and plans to add two technology staff members.
The port is the advocate of the Houston Ship Channel and generates more than $906 billion in economic impact for the U.S, according to its website. In Texas, it generates $439 billion. It is the largest port of waterborne tonnage, containing more than 200 private terminals and eight public.
This year the Port Commission put out several procurements for hardware, including cameras, emergency management equipment, law enforcement equipment, process controls and Cisco telephones, among others.
The organization's total head count is 871 for the coming year.
