The Port of Houston Authority, which owns, manages and operates eight public terminals along a 52-mile waterway, has issued a request for proposal (RFP) for next-generation enterprise resource planning and implementation and support services.

According to the RFP, these implementation and support services include:

  • Workday, a cloud-based software specializing in financial management applications, enterprise resource planning and human capital management
  • IBM MAS-8, an asset management tool that delivers a comprehensive view of all asset types, including their conditions and locations
  • IBM TAS-12 SaaS platform, an integrated workplace management system

“These chosen platforms, once implemented, will support port employees in the day-to-day delivery of port services, tasks and activities; leverage best practices; and significantly improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the port’s business processes,” the RFP states.

To prepare for these new platforms, the port will retire existing legacy applications and evaluate business process optimization and data migration strategies. To achieve the latter, the port will implement the following guiding principles:

  • “One Port Houston — break down organizational silos through greater cross-functional collaboration and decision-making"
  • "User-Friendly — develop and implement a user-friendly platform to increase collaboration and productivity and limit the need for one-off support"
  • "Ease of Reporting — improve data collection and reporting to intuitively identify workforce needs and make strategic decisions"
  • "One Source of Truth — establish a single platform of real-time interdepartmental data for budget, cost reporting, inventory, asset and project management"
  • "Automated Processes — removes unnecessary manual processes to streamline Port Houston and increase productivity"
