Texas voters handed Christi Craddick a third term on the Railroad Commission, giving the Midland Republican just more than 6 million votes, compared to the 4.2 million votes received by her Democratic challenger.
Since she was first elected, upgrading the agency’s information technology has been a top priority for Craddick.
The proposed budget request submitted in August contains “our last big ask for IT.”
The request is to fund upgrades to information technology that will give the agency and industry more and improved data on water disposal, injection volumes, rates and locations and the locations of any fault lines in the vicinity of disposal wells.
“The agency and industry decided we need more information,” she explained. “We have to work to get more data.”
Currently chairman of the commission, which has three elected members, Craddick said her plans are to continue seeing Texas oil and gas producers responsibly produce the energy she said is vital to the U.S. and the world, thus ensuring prosperity and energy security.
With more than 60 days until the Texas legislative session begins in Austin, she said the agency is working on an additional budget request to fund emergency well plugging and hire additional people.
