Research University Seeking Technology Architect

University of Texas Southwestern is recruiting for a leader in its Telecom and Network Infrastructure Division.

University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, one of the largest medical schools in the country, is looking for a telecom and network infrastructure technology architect.

UT Southwestern has about 23,000 employees, and the overall information resources budget is about $25 million, according to its FY2024 budget. The position is within the Information Resources Office, which includes the Telecom and Network Infrastructure Division.

The architect will lead the design, development and implementation of network and communications infrastructure. The person in the role will work with executive leadership to develop strategic planning and collaborate across the university.

This leadership role has a range of duties in working with integrated technology systems and interacting with vendors and contractors. The successful candidate should be visionary and strategic, be able to consult and mentor within the division, and be an excellent communicator.

Preferred candidates will have at least 10 years’ experience in telecommunications and a bachelor’s degree in related fields, although a master’s degree in electrical engineering or computer science is preferred. Additional candidate preferences include:

  • Experience leading mid- to large-scale IS systems implementation
  • Expertise with various Cisco platforms
  • Experience with Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure and software-defined networking
  • Experience with cloud deployments including Azure Cloud

Although there isn’t a salary listed, the Texas Workforce Commission lists a salary range projected from $89,000 to $155,000 per year. The listing doesn’t have a closing date.
