The initiative is being organized by Royse City American Legion Post 100, which has already been regularly working to spread suicide awareness by promoting the use of national hotline 988 for those struggling with suicidal thoughts.
In addition to the 988 hotline, other resources currently listed on www.septemberwestand.com include:
- Higher Hopes Counseling at 200 Plum St. in Royse City, which has a textline number (214) 771-8308 and website
- National Alliance on Mental Illness, which has a helpline number at (800) 950-NAMI, a textline at 62640 and an extensive website
- PTSD Foundation of America, with a helpline number at (877) 717-7873
- Suicide Prevention and Brain Health courtesy of the Rotary Club
- North Texas Behavioral Health Authority, which lists several resources on its website
The Royse City American Legion also hosts its own Veterans Empowerment Therapy Program, which is a free service the post offers in partnership with Higher Hopes Counseling.
