The San Marcos City Council has approved a $9.5 million IT Internal Service Fund budget for Fiscal Year 2027, up from $7.7 million in FY 2026.
The council adopted the broader FY 2027 budget Sept. 15. The technology fund includes about $4.6 million for internal service fund special services, $3.9 million for IT and $964,000 for geographic information systems.
By expense category, the fund includes about $4.1 million for personnel, $3.3 million for contracted services and $1.8 million for capital outlay.
The IT fund supports 29.88 full-time equivalent positions — 23.38 in IT and 6.5 in geographic information systems.
Technology spending also appears outside the fund. The FY 2027 budget includes $24,000 for new software for the Office of Community Support and Resource Navigation and $1.5 million for radio replacements.
At the same meeting, council members unanimously approved a master lease agreement with Dell Financial Services that allows the city to finance up to $3.75 million in high-value technology purchases.
The agreement uses a Texas Department of Information Resources cooperative contract and gives the city a financing mechanism for future technology acquisitions rather than authorizing a specific purchase.
The city’s FY 2027 budget totals more than $406 million.
