Special District With $339 Billion in State Economic Value Seeks SharePoint Upgrade

To modernize systems, move to a cloud-based collaborative solution, and better integrate with Microsoft 365 products, one of the largest U.S. ports seeks to upgrade to Microsoft SharePoint 365.

In a request for proposals (RFP), with an 11 a.m. Sept. 14 deadline, the Port of Houston Authority seeks a “consultation and implementation firm for redesign and rebuild of the current on-premise SharePoint intranet (branded as SharePort) into the cloud-based SaaS solutions of SharePoint Online and Microsoft Teams.”

Objectives listed in the RFP include:
  • Mitigate risk by upgrading to currently supported product.
  • Create collaborative environment using already-licensed technology.
  • Modernize and align corporate and team sites.
  • Establish and implement governance.
  • Deliver a cohesive user experience.
  • Include mobile access.
  • Provide a consistent look and feel.
  • Migrate varied content including centralized records.
  • Implement and configure Gimmal Records software.
The SharePort interface must also be user-friendly, intuitive and employee-centric. It will be used by direct employees, contractors and additional affiliated users.

Port Houston was the sixth-largest container port in 2018, according to its website. The budget is more than $328 million with an estimated $6.5 million IT budget, according to Industry Navigator.*
