State Agency Announces New CISO

The Austin IT veteran is moving from an agency where he served for more than eight years.

A longtime technologist has announced he will take a leadership role after many years as a state-level information security officer.

Marlin Craig has announced a move to chief information security officer (CISO) at the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), the state agency responsible for registering and licensing vehicles.

The LinkedIn update made Monday was to the point, stating that he was “happy to share that I’m starting a new position.”

The state’s CISO job description states that this position performs highly advanced information and managerial work, providing direction and guidance in strategic operations and planning.

Craig most recently served with the Texas Secretary of State (SOS) as an information security officer beginning in 2016, according to his LinkedIn profile. His responsibilities included planning and implementing computer system security plans, advising on security procedures, and performing technical security reviews and vulnerability scans.

Other positions at the SOS included security analyst from 2014-16 and a network specialist beginning in October 2013.

He also has worked for private-sector companies including Dell, AMD, Freescale and Motorola. He attended the University of Texas at Austin and Texas State University.

Craig is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional.
