The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) has issued a legislative appropriations request (LAR) to replace its security incident event management (SIEM) system.

The TABC regulates sales, taxation, importation, manufacturing, transporting and advertising of alcoholic beverages within the state.

While performing these services, the agency claims it is exposed to various forms of sensitive information, according to its LAR, for fiscal years 2024 and 2025, such as Social Security numbers, financial data and personally identifiable details.

To protect this data, the agency is requesting funding to replace its SIEM system to create more automated responses to security threats and to allow the TABC to scale up with more coverage than previous systems.

Other benefits of replacing this system include:

  • Facilitating all IT staff coordination through a single-pane view of TABC’s IT network flow
  • Stopping potential ransomware attacks that target servers
  • Streamlining remediation of future security incidents
  • Increased endpoint detection and response
  • Implementing user behavior analytics
  • Mitigating threats at an enterprise level and improving TABC’s security posture
