The second application round for Texas’ State and Local Cybersecurity Grant Program (SLCGP) funding is expected to open in January, according to a recent report.

The grant applications are administered through the Office of the Governor and will be advertised on the state’s eGrants site, as was the first round.

First-round awardees are still listed as “under evaluation.” There was $8.4 million at stake.

Eligible entities include:
  • Cities, towns or townships
  • Counties
  • Municipalities
  • Local public authorities
  • School districts and community colleges
  • Special districts
Objectives of the funding include:
  • Develop and establish appropriate cybersecurity planning and governance
  • Understand cybersecurity posture and areas needing improvement
  • Implement protections appropriate to risk
  • Enhance workforce development
While applications must go through the governor’s office, the Texas Department of Information Resources serves as the subject matter expert for the program and has posted an in-depth but simple-to-follow web page outlining how the program operates.
