Technology executive Ross Shapiro has joined The GTM Group as adviser and practice lead, with a territory that includes Texas and California.
Shapiro, who’s based in El Paso, has worked in the private sector and served state and local government and education for more than a decade, most recently as vice president of sales for Twilio.
Before that, he held a series of increasingly responsible leadership and executive roles with companies including NetApp, Verizon Enterprise Solutions and PGi.
“The GTM Group approached and asked, ‘What is my perfect role?’” Shapiro told Industry Insider — Texas. “I said, ‘One that could make a positive impact to our citizens focused on successful outcomes, not limited to a single solution.’ This is an exciting opportunity to leverage decades of experience to make this happen.”
GTM (Go to Market) describes itself as “a sales consulting and government procurement company focused on maximizing our clients’ ability to sell their products, services and solutions into the SLED, federal, higher education and health-care markets.”
Shapiro said his priorities in his new role include “building out the practice area” with public-sector clients and “enabling manufacturers and service providers a platform to elevate their offerings.” He emphasized that his is not a sales role but rather one focused on assessing a client’s strengths and then helping them find targets.
“We are an accelerator of business and opportunity,” he added.
Shapiro received his Bachelor of Science degree in managerial economics from the University of California, Davis, and he is a certified paralegal, having received that credential from Texas A&M University-Texarkana. He also holds numerous professional certifications.
