The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) has confirmed that a “cybersecurity event” is the reason for its three-week-long tech outage.

“TTUHSC recently identified information technology issues that resulted in a temporary disruption to our computer systems and applications. Upon learning of the issues, TTUHSC began an investigation and took steps to ensure the security of the TTUHSC network. While our investigation into the issues is ongoing, we recently confirmed the source of the disruption is the result of a cybersecurity event,” an emailed news release said. “We are working diligently with our internal and external partners to restore TTUHSC systems, services and applications to secure full functionality as quickly as possible.”

The news release said that the Health Sciences Center will not comment further due to the ongoing investigation.

The educational and public health institute serving West Texas updated a temporary website Oct. 14 indicating that systems are down and there isn't a restoration timeline.

Students, faculty and staff are affected as well as the health clinics and dental/oral clinic. Students remain in session.

TTUHSC has 5,600 faculty and staff and more than 5,300 students, according to its legislative appropriations request. It offers medical, nursing and assorted health training as well as clinics and telehealth services throughout the region.
