According to the agency’s website, TEA’s mission is to “improve outcomes for all public school students in the state by providing leadership, guidance and support to school systems.”
It also lists the agency’s top strategic priorities as supporting and retaining teachers and principals; building a foundation for reading and math; connecting high school to career and college; and improving low-performing schools.
As for the department’s top five IT purchases, TEA spent approximately $6 million. Here with rounding, are those purchases, according to the Texas Comptroller’s (CPA) “Payment to Payee” visualization:
- $3 million to the Texas Department of Information Resources, which delivers technology solutions to state and local government entities.
- $1.8 million to Amplify Education Inc., which collaborates with educators to create K–12 core and supplemental curriculum and assessment and intervention programs for students.
- $444,444 to Teaching Strategies LLC, which provides early learning solutions for curriculum, assessment, family engagement and professional development.
- $410,500 to Cooper Consulting Company, which offers information system solutions to help assess organizations’ needs to improve their overall performance.
- $296,944 to Mind Research Institute, a research-based nonprofit organization that aims to provide students with a solid foundation in math through instructional programs.
Regarding specific purchases, TEA spent $3 million on computer services, $2.6 million on computer software and $1.7 million on IT services.
