The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) has spent $9.5 million on 212 purchase orders between Jan. 4 and March 3.

According to the department’s website, TxDMV’s mission is “to serve, protect and advance the citizens and industries in the state with quality motor vehicle-related services.”

The website also states that the department accumulates more revenue for the state than it spends on its own operations. For example, for “every $1 the department spends, it collects an additional $10 for other state purposes. Most of the additional funds are used to build and maintain the state’s transportation infrastructure.”

As for the department’s top five IT goods purchases, TxDMV spent approximately $6.7 million. Here with rounding, are those purchases, according to the Texas Comptroller’s (CPA) “Payment to Payee” visualization:

Regarding specific purchases, TxDMV spent $4.2 million on contracted services, $957,829 on computer services, $772,208 on IT services and $771,432 on telecommunications.

The periodic reports of spending on IT goods and services by agencies and departments in state government are compiled by Industry Insider — Texas as a way of highlighting procurements and trends.
