The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is the mandated crash records custodian for the state and has plans to issue a solicitation for support and maintenance of its data system.

The Crash Record Information System, or CRIS, collects city and county crash records and allows for analyzing and reporting on traffic safety problems and trends, according to recent highway safety planning. CRIS also has a public-facing website for purchasing and downloading crash reports.

Various data inputs include:
  • Crash types
  • Counts
  • Trends
  • Demographics
  • Contributing factors
Ongoing traffic problems identified with the help of CRIS data are safety issues such as impaired driving, speeding, improperly installed car seats and non-use of seatbelts. Distracted driving, bicycling and walking are also noted. This information is shared with traffic safety specialists who do outreach in affected communities.

TxDOT is in the planning phase of solicitation No. Pre-601440000045984. The pre-solicitation notice is for vendor awareness and doesn’t guarantee an RFO to follow. The expiration date is Jan. 6.
