TxDOT Recruiting Data Analyst for Strategic Planning Division

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is looking to fill a data analyst role within its Strategic Planning Division, which advances the agency’s enterprise initiatives.

According to the job listing, “work involves conducting detailed analysis and extensive research on data and providing results in various formats.” The chosen candidate will monitor and implement measures to ensure data quality and will be responsible for using standard statistical tools, methods and techniques to translate data into actionable insights using data visualization software.

The department plans to hire either a Data Analyst IV or V. The major difference between each role is their level of seniority and responsibilities. The duties of a Data Analyst IV include:
  • Identifying data gaps, errors, anomalies, inconsistencies and redundancies by analyzing the content, structure and relationships within data 
  • Accessing information from business organization cross-sections to make sound business decisions
  • Designing, developing and maintaining visualizations and reports utilizing Tableau 
  • Preparing and conducting performance visualizations and reports 
  • Analyzing data using standard statistical tools, methods and techniques 
  • Identifying and interpreting data patterns and trends and assessing data quality 
  • Developing reports, dashboards and interactive visualizations using different components of Tableau software, including Tableau Desktop, Tableau Prep and Tableau Server 

Meanwhile, a Data Analyst V has all the same duties plus the following:
  • Developing and implementing databases that optimize statistical efficiency and quality 
  • Overseeing the creation of new standard reports, collaborating with end users to gather report requirements and ensuring proper testing and validation 
  • Consulting with internal and external customers to identify user needs 
  • Identifying data gaps, errors, anomalies, inconsistencies and redundancies by analyzing the content, structure and relationships within data 
  • Responding to incoming requests from business areas to design, build, maintain or repair reports and applications 

The minimum salary for both positions is $62,004, and the maximum compensation is $123,267 based on minimum qualifications.

For a Data Analyst IV, qualifications include having a bachelor’s degree in management information systems, computer science, statistics, mathematics or another related field and three years of data analysis, research, compilation, report writing and design experience.

For a Data Analyst V, the educational qualifications are the same. The only difference is having four years of relevant work experience instead of three.
