The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has issued a request for information (RFI) from vendors to establish a crime laboratory portal.

The system would streamline the request and transfer of crime laboratory records for state attorneys, crime laboratories and other authorized parties as part of discovery — the exchanging of evidence before a case goes to trial.

According to the RFI, DPS is looking for a solution to:

  • Interface with various software platforms such as JusticeTrax, Qualtrax, BEAST, QPulse, Forensic Advantage, Stacs, Access, SharePoint, etc., and adapt to new or updated platforms
  • Provide an audit trail indicating when the portal was accessed
  • Allow searches under various parameters, including lab case number, agency case number, suspect and victim name
  • Accommodate varying file formats (PDF, TIF, Word, Excel, etc.) in all sizes
  • Designate authorized users by case — meaning an attorney assigned to a DPS Amarillo case should not be able to access any DPS Amarillo case unless they are authorized to do so

RFI No. 202303091415 can be found online. The due date for vendors to submit information is June 5.
