Innovation Program

Creating response-ready technologies There’s ready. And then there’s response ready.
First responders embody that distinction. Their workplace is wherever people are in crisis, which often puts them in unpredictable and potentially volatile situations. Situations where communication and near real-time information can literally mean the difference between life and death.

Verizon Frontline is committed to helping first responders on the front lines become more response ready, by working together in partnership to create solutions that help improve preparedness and situational awareness for you and your teams.

We’re building our 5G Ultra Wideband network right to support public safety. And we’re working to build our next-generation solutions right, too, collaborating with responders to determine their most pressing needs and working to develop solutions that speak to those needs through the Verizon Frontline Innovation Program.

This first-of-its-kind innovation incubator is dedicated to creating 5G-enabled solutions for public safety. The Verizon Frontline Innovation Program will explore new, innovative technologies that provide solutions to public safety agencies across the following focus areas:

Preparation: Enhancing first responders’ ability to prepare for any emergency
Response: Improving how first responders react to,manage, and execute during an emergency event
Recovery: Improving the ways communities recover from incidents
Mitigation: Working to prevent future incidents from happening or minimizing the impacts

Because your team’s safety is paramount, we’re partnering with companies to develop and advance solutions that provide powerful new capabilities. These include the use of computer vision, augmented and virtual reality (AR and VR), robotics, multi-access edge computing, real-time analytics, ad-hoc networks, satellite backhaul and other leading-edge technologies. Combined with the blazing speed, low latency and massive capacity of our 5G Ultra Wideband network, these solutions have the potential to revolutionize the way first responders do their jobs.

As new capabilities are developed and rolled out, 5G Ultra Wideband will enable rescuers to find victims more easily in rubble. Commanders will get near real-time insights into—and views of—crime and disaster scenes. Public safety agencies will train personnel using immersive and interactive 360-degree simulations. And so much more.

We’re aiming to deliver our new solutions to public safety agencies throughout the country and in our Ashburn, Va., briefing center this year, making good on our goal of bringing 5G to first responders first. And this is just the beginning. The future of public safety will be powered by 5G. We know, because we’re not waiting for the future—we’re building it.
