The Texas Legislature had authorized the County to begin collecting Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT), a potentially significant new revenue stream. But the Commissioners Court didn’t want to wait until the new year to get started.
They wanted the program live by October 1st.
That gave County Treasurer Cindy Brown barely three months to stand up an entirely new tax program, with zero room for error.
