A new study from VMWare and NASCIO shows that successful IT programs are leveraging new and emerging advancements and concludes with a bold action list that can set a state government up for success.
To provide efficient and effective outcomes, citizen expectations have never been higher for digital services. As such, government organizations are responding with digital transformation initiatives. This study is critical because it provides valuable insights into how states are developing strategy better serve their citizens by modernizing their applications.
The study found that there are three imperatives pivotal to driving an application modernization strategy:
- Determine Your Risk
- Upskill/Reskill
- Agile Program Support
By establishing a clear business case for change, government organizations can more promptly gain buy-in from key stakeholders. Furthermore, creating an inventory of current applications enables organizations to take stock of what they have and identify gaps. Once these steps have been taken, it becomes possible to eliminate technical debt and implement an Agile delivery process. The end result will be a faster, more efficient, and more effective state government that is better equipped to serve its citizens.
