The California Department of Technology and IBM are hosting an introductory event July 24 to kick off the launch of CalCloud, the new secure private cloud that’s available beginning this month to state agencies, local governments and education customers.
Hosted in California Office of Technology Services’ data centers in Rancho Cordova and Vacaville, the virtual infrastructure is designed to provide scalable and rapid provisioning of servers, along with disaster recovery, operating systems, backup and storage, officials said. The intent is to provide a self-service, shopping cart-style experience for users, with options to buy predefined bundles of service offered via monthly subscriptions.
OTech is operating CalCloud in partnership with IBM and AT&T, which earlier this year were awarded a $37 million contract to develop CalCloud in the state’s data center.
The July 24 kickoff event from 9 a.m.-11:30 a.m. at the State Lottery Building in Sacramento will include a presentation on CalCloud and remarks from Tony Perez, undersecretary of Government Operations Agency; Carlos Ramos, director and state CIO of the California Department of Technology; George Cruser, general manager of infrastructure and complex deals for IBM.
Attendees will hear why California chose to pursue the CalCloud model, see a demonstration of the CalCloud portal and learn what customers can expect from the service.
