This Friday, the Department of Motor Vehicles will hold the first in a series of public workshops as the state develops regulations on the testing and use of driver less, or autonomous, vehicles in California.
After SB 1298 (Padilla – D-Pacoima) was signed into law last year, the department was required to create an application and approval process for operating autonomous vehicles on California roads. The legislation also calls for the establishment of safety and performance standards and requires that vehicles meet all safety and performance requirements already in state and federal law.
The workshop is scheduled for April 19 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the auditorium of the Department of General Headquarters in West Sacramento.
The DMV will stream a live webcast of the event from it’s website.
