Story#2: The Department of Technology this year has held task force meetings to create a rating system for contractor performance. The meetings followed public forums to address concerns about IT vendor accountability after recent high-profile project failures such as the state controller’s MyCalPays system. State CIO Carlos Ramos has said he wants to mitigate risk by implementing a system to evaluate vendor performance, increase private-sector accountability and competition, drive down costs, and shorten the procurement cycle. The task force includes members of approximately 17 private companies from small businesses to major global IT consulting firms, according to meeting attendees. CalTech Chief Procurement Officer Marnell Voss heads the task force, which also includes CalTech staff and the Department of General Services. A report is expected to be released early next year.
