Annual cybersecurity event to be held next week

An event to take place on Oct. 9 and 10 in Sacramento will discuss best practices in cybersecurity for both citizens and government.

The two-day event will be taking place at the Sacramento Convention Center from 12:30 pm to 5 pm on Oct. 9 and 8 am to 4:30 pm on Oct. 10.

The 13th Annual California Cyber Security Symposium, formerly known as the IT Security Awareness Fair, will examine several topics, including privacy, risk management, disaster recovery and collaboration between government organizations. The symposium is the result of collaboration between state and local governments, federal government, higher education and the private sector.

Giving keynote addresses at the conference will be Dave DeWalt from FireEye, Inc., Lt. Col (ret.) Rob Waldman and Lee Klarich from Palo Alto Networks.

The symposium will be composed of seven different tracks: the California Information Security Office, Privacy, Security Training and Development, Identity Management and Security Architecture, Protecting Against the Cyber Threat, Tools and Techniques for a More Secure Environment, and Security Leadership and Strategies.

According to event host Public Sector Partners’ website, they anticipate 1000 people to attend the symposium.   “This year’s forum will add Critical Infrastructure, Emergency Response, and Information Privacy and Protection to the information tracks.  That means the addition of California Emergency Management Agency, the California Attorney General’s Office, and attendees from all of the large Utility and Power providers,” says the event website.

Admission is complimentary for public sector attendees.  Private sector attendees who are not sponsoring the event will be charged $250 for a two-day pass.

Registration is open on the Public Sector Partners site at: http://pspinfo.us/events/css2013/.
