Barney Gomez appointed CIO of FI$Cal Project

The Financial Information System for California, or FI$Cal Project, has hired a former Office of Systems Integration employee as chief information officer, project executive Mike Reyna confirmed today.

Barney Gomez, who worked in the positions of CIO and Information Technology Office Manager at the Office of Systems Integration, started as CIO for FI$Cal earlier this month.

The FI$Cal Project is designed to create an integrated financial management system. The State Controller, State Treasurer, Department of Finance, and Department of General Services partner on the FI$Cal project, which has been projected to cost a total of $1.6 billion. The project currently continues a multi-stage procurement process and expects to let a contract to one of three competing companies in May 2012.
