The Board of Equalization’s (BOE) Electronic Services Expansion Project (ESEP) this week received an award from the National Association of State Chief Information Officers (NASCIO).
ESEP, which began on Dec. 3, 2008 and was completed on Oct. 1, 2012 to allow BOE customers to register businesses, file returns, make payments, and request tax relief through the tax agency’s website. The four-year project eliminated paper forms and applications for many BOE tax and fee programs.
"This landmark project allows the BOE to streamline our customers’ application process, decrease errors, and reduce our paper use," said BOE Executive Director Cynthia Bridges in a press release.
According to the nomination paperwork, the project was completed on time, within budget and is expected to save an average of $700,000 annually from registrations.
The project won in the category of Digital Government: Government to Business. The award was presented during a dinner ceremony on Monday evening. A total of 11 awards were given out to IT projects throughout the country.
