Borchin leaves CalVet, will fill in amid staff changes at Dept. of Technology

Christie Borchin is leaving her position as Agency CIO for the California Department of Veterans Affairs (CalVet) and will temporarily head up the Department of Technology’s Office of Professional Development (OPD) starting on Aug. 7.

Borchin will serve until the OPD finds permanent replacement for Kari Gutierrez, who will now be leading the Information Technology Project Oversight and Consulting Division at the Department of Technology, according to a department spokesman.  Gutierrez is back filling the position left vacant by Mary Winkley who will take on new responsibilities as the department “builds up a new capacity to provide coaching and assistance to departments on their IT projects.”

Borchin has served as the Agency CIO for CalVet where she chaired the Information Technology Executive Committee (ITEC) since November 2010.  Prior to that she was CIO of the California Department of Insurance from July 2008 to October 2010.

"It has been a great experience working at CalVet, as I utilized the knowledge that I gained from the Department of Insurance to institute positive change," Borchin said in an email.

Borchin also said she is proud of the CalVet Mobile Application, which was nominated by the National Association of State CIOs (NASCIO) in 2012 for a State IT Recognition Award.

Her last day at CalVet is today.
