The Budget Solutions Task Force, a group created to review private sector IT contracts, among other contracts, and give recommendations for cancellations, will be meeting this Thursday to discuss the current list of state contracts.
Representatives from CalTrans, Department of Water Resources, Managed Risk Medical Insurance Board and the Department of Healthcare Services will speak with the committee regarding their contracts, according to Pat McConahay, CalHR communications director. The details of which contracts to be discussed were not available.
The task force was established last summer as part a budget deal between the Brown Administration and the SEIU Local 1000 employee union. The deal involved a side letter agreement that includes a 4.62% pay cut and one required personal leave day per month. As part of the agreement, the task force, comprised of a handful of SEIU representatives and equal number of state government representatives began performing a review of state contracts, for work that could be done by state employees with the goal of finding savings for the state.
Last fall, the FI$Cal project maintenance and operations and state child support IT contracts werenamed as targets by the union for potential cancellation.
Task force meeting have been ongoing, with the most recent meeting within the last month, according to McConahay. Ultimately, the task force will report its recommendations for contract cancellations to the Department of Finance and Governor Brown, who make the final decision on whether to cancel which or any contracts.
