Cal eConnect, the organization responsible for implementing the state’s health information exchange services and policies, has appointed Robert M. Cothren, PhD as chief technology officer, according to a Cal eConnect press release.

Cothren, who most recently worked for a health IT solutions company as CTO, has a PhD in Medical Engineering and has worked in various positions relating to both state and federal health information technology, according to Cal eConnect. Cothren’s background also includes medical research.

Cal eConnect, under leadership by interim CEO Laura Landry since former CEO Carladenise Edwards left the position in August, announced Cothren’s appointment in late November. The organization is still recruiting for the CEO position, according to the eConnect Web site.
