California Conservation Corps Opens Recruitment for Chief Information Officer

The technology leadership role within the CCC entails management, budget oversight and planning. The role is classified as IT Manager II.

The California Conservation Corps (CCC) has opened recruitment for a chief information officer, the position with the highest level of responsibility for guiding and directing the department’s use of technology.

CCC works on environmental projects and responds to natural and human-made disasters. Since Gov. Jerry Brown established the CCC in 1976, more than 120,000 young adults have served. More than 400 corps members have been assisting other agencies in fighting the recent spate of wildfires in Southern California.

The CIO (IT Manager II) will lead the formation of strategies for information technologies and align technology to CCC’s business areas as well as oversee the department’s tech governance. Key duties of the position include:
  • Promoting and advocating for the use of technology to meet business objectives and create innovative IT business solutions
  • Overseeing the continued improvement of IT processes within CCC Information Systems and Services (ISS) and conducting service-level evaluations and providing program management direction
  • Managing the operations of ISS, which provides IT services in support of the department’s programs, strategic goals, business objectives and management principles
The responsibilities of the role break down as follows:
  • IT policy and processes
  • Personnel management — the CIO has one direct report and a dozen indirect reports
  • Information security
  • Planning for future needs
  • External relations (10 percent) — the CIO deals directly with the agency information officer for the California Natural Resources Agency, CCC’s parent organization, as well as with the California Department of Technology, the Department of Finance, the Department of General Services, information security officers, chief technology/information officers, and various other state, federal and local agencies
  • Budget oversight
  • Diversity, equity and inclusion
The position is a hybrid role, with up to three days of telework per week and two days in the office. The role has a monthly salary range of $11,056-$13,439, and the application deadline is Sunday. More information can be found in the job posting and duty statement.
