Marcie Kahbody will start Oct. 1 as the new chief information officer of the California State Transportation Agency (CalSTA), which is over Caltrans, the High-Speed Rail Authority and other entities.

Kahbody has been in technology positions for the state the past 25 years, and most recently was an IT manager for the Department of Health Care Services. Kahbody worked in a similar position for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, and spent three years with the then-California Technology Agency.

She spent the bulk of her career – nearly 20 years – at the Department of General Services as a manager and network administrator.

Kahbody is replacing James Duckens, who last year was named CalSTA’s first-ever IT chief. Duckens left in June to become project director of the California Healthcare Eligibility, Enrollment and Retention System (CalHEERS).

She has a bachelor’s degree in computer science from California State University, Sacramento, and was a participant in the state’s Information Technology Leadership Academy in 2012. Kahbody is a Certified Microsoft Engineer and is part of Sac State’s Leadership for the Government Executive program.
