California Technology Agency looks toward collaboration following proposed budget

The California Technology Agency will maintain its current responsibilities and oversight of technology projects if eliminated and reorganized as proposed in Gov. Jerry Brown’s 2012-2013 budget proposal, according to a statement today from agency Secretary Carlos Ramos.

The governor’s budget proposal makes the Technology Agency a department under the new Government Operations Agency, according to the budget posted online Thursday.

"Gov. Brown is determined to make state government more efficient and effective," Secretary Ramos said in a statement. "The proposed reorganization keeps the Technology Agency’s authority, jurisdiction and mission intact. In addition, by placing the Technology Agency together with the Department of General Services and the Department of Human Resources, the opportunity to collaborate on issues such as IT procurement and maintaining a capable IT workforce becomes easier."

Gov. Brown’s budget is posted online at http://www.ebudget.ca.gov/. Proposals to eliminate and reorganize 12 states agencies into 10 agencies is suggested under the section titled "Making Government More Efficient" (http://www.ebudget.ca.gov/pdf/BudgetSummary/MakingGovernmentMoreEfficient.pdf).

The proposed budget also eliminates the State 9-1-1 Advisory Board and the Technology Services Board, both managed under the Technology Agency.
