CalSTA Pulls From DMV for Integrated Payment Leader

Serenity Thompson, DMV’s former deputy director of digital services, has been tapped to lead the California State Transportation Agency’s Integrated Payments Center of Excellence.

Serenity Thompson, the former deputy director of the California Department of Motor Vehicles' (DMV) Digital Services Division, has taken a new role as director of the California State Transportation Agency's (CalSTA) Integrated Payments Center of Excellence.

For the uninitiated, CalSTA is the umbrella agency for the California Highway Patrol, DMV, Department of Transportation, California Transportation Commission, High-Speed Rail Authority and several others.

Thompson has more than two decades of experience in the public and private sectors. Prior to her role with DMV, Thompson served as the chief of the California Lottery’s digital engagement and loyalty program.

Before that, Thompson held a number of advisory and leadership roles in the private sector for companies such as Navan, Otelier, Switchfly, Micro Focus and Oracle, among others.

Thompson holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of San Francisco School of Management and a Bachelor of Arts in visual and performing arts from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
