Caltrans’ Top 5 Buys of IT Goods in 2020 Topped $25M

The California Department of Transportation’s most expensive purchases of IT goods last year accounted for millions of dollars of spend and were made throughout the year.

The state transportation agency made more than 1,000 purchases of IT goods last year and spent more than $25 million on just its five most expensive purchases.

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) completed 1,094 buys of IT goods during 2020 — spending $27,256,949 on its five priciest expenditures. Here, with rounding, is what Caltrans spent:

  • $8.2 million with Key Government Finance for Purchase Order #2660-202000000236-1, a purchase made July 5. The Colorado-based company, a subsidiary of KeyBank, develops custom financing solutions for the public sector that enable access to knowledge, capital and innovation.
  • $6.7 million with NWN Corp. for HP EBx3601030G4 i7-8665U 13 16GB/512 PC: Part # 8TK37UC#ABA, a purchase made May 31. That’s probably a reference to buying HP EliteBook G4 laptops.
  • $4.3 million with PC Specialists Inc. for Mobile Precision 3541 XCTO BASE, a purchase made March 24. It’s most likely for Dell Precision 3541 workstations.
  • $4.2 million with NWN Corp. for HP 840 G7 16gb 128SSD, a purchase made Nov. 9 for HP EliteBook 840 G7 Notebooks with 16 GB of memory.
  • $3.9 million with Presidio Networked Solutions Group for SNTC-8X5XNBD Cisco ISR 4321 (2GE,2NIM, 4G FLASH, 4G DRAM, IPB), a purchase made Dec. 12. That probably refers to the Cisco ISR 4321 router.
