Ramos to Keynote Dec. 10 State of Technology Industry Forum

Hosted by Techwire, the first-annual State of Technology Industry Forum is being produced in association with the California Department of Technology, IT Alliance for Public Sector and TechAmerica.

State CIO and Department of Technology Director Carlos Ramos will address cloud computing, procurement and other topics in a keynote on California’s government IT landscape, during a half-day forum presented by Techwire on Wednesday, Dec. 10, in Sacramento.

California state government continues to make inroads into cloud computing, through its CalCloud service launched last summer and a "cloud first" policy for state agencies and departments introduced in August. The state also is taking a number of steps to improve procurement, through policy changes and other measures.

Two group discussions will follow Ramos’ keynote: a panel of agency CIOs, and a discussion and audience Q&A on technology policy.

The CIO panel is scheduled to include Liana Bailey-Crimmins, CIO of the CalPERS Information Technology Services Branch; Tim Garza, agency CIO, Natural Resources Agency; Joe Panora, agency CIO, California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation; and Amy Tong, agency CIO, California Health and Human Services.

Panelists for the policy discussion and Q&A will include Ramos, Jim Butler, deputy director and chief procurement officer for the Department of General Services; Russ Guarna, vice president for state and local government at TechAmerica; and Carol Henton, vice president for state, local and education at the IT Alliance for Public Sector.

Registration is still open for this event and is available to both Techwire members and non-members. Click here for more information.
