California Conservation Corps
Editor’s note: Following is one in an ongoing series of profiles of the largest California state government agencies.
California’s Conservation Corps has an annual budget around $95 million for the 2017-18 fiscal year, of which about $4 million is allocated to IT.
At the moment, the CCC is primarily focusing on continuing to implement new modules for its C3 system.
The first module the CCC is working on will transition its pay system to a stipend system for the corps members, as opposed to its current hourly time sheet. This will be completed by July 2018.
The next module being implemented has two functions. The first is to create a report of a corps member’s time in the CCC. The reports will include “all the trainings that they’ve taken, all of the certifications that they’d received, all of their achievements,” CCC CIO David Chase told Techwire.
The second function of the module would be to track “how much work we’ve done, how many miles of trails we’ve built, how many fires we fought, how many hours people worked, that kind of stuff,” Chase continued.
A challenge that Chase expects the department to face because it is smaller is being able to do meaningful work across several areas.
One of Chase’s main goals is to ensure that the systems the department is designing and implementing are well-designed and operate as needed.
