The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation has implemented a new tool, JusticeXchange, that will allow criminal investigators to search a near-real-time database to find wanted persons already booked into state facilities, according to an announcement by Louisville, Kentucky-based Appriss.
"This is a great tool for our law enforcement community," said CDCR Acting Secretary Martin Hoshino in a statement. "Criminal investigators will be able to go to a single site to search for people they’re looking for. They’ll know in near-real-time if that person has been booked into one of our facilities. It will save time and money, and help us make sure that wanted persons get caught and pay for their crimes."
Under an agreement with Appriss, the department will use a unified system to identify wanted individuals, such as non-compliant parents in child custody cases or inmates illegally receiving benefits such as unemployment insurance. Criminal investigators can also place a "watch" on a suspect and know almost instantly if that person is booked into another facility, according to the announcement.
"The information provided by the JusticeXchange Portal provided CDCR an opportunity to improve public safety by leveraging our data with other trusted law enforcement agencies," said, Joe Panora, Director of CDCR’s Enterprise Information Services Division, via email.
