The Business Information Systems (BIS) project launched by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) received national recognition this week at the National Association of State Chief Information Officers’ annual conference in Philadelphia.
Recognizing the department’s effort to successfully implement an enterprise resource planning solution to integrate the various administrative functional areas which include purchasing, budgeting, accounting, human resources, asset tracking and time and shift management, the project won in the category of Improving State Operations.
The project began in January 2001 and was completed by December 2012. According to the nomination paperwork, CDCR estimated that implementing BIS saved their department several million dollars in reducing resource and operating costs.
The award was presented during a dinner ceremony on Monday evening. A total of 11 awards were given out to IT projects throughout the country.
