CHP's New CIO Brings Decades of Practical Experience to the Role

Dave Jenkins, a nearly 30-year veteran of the California Highway Patrol and its new technology leader, has held a wide variety of positions with the department. These include supervisory roles in three commands.

The California Highway Patrol has tapped a longtime department insider to lead its information technology efforts as CIO.

Dave Jenkins, a nearly 30-year veteran with the CHP, was recently appointed to lead the Information Management Division, which oversees information systems, communications, and data collection and analysis, among other mission-critical duties.

“Chief Jenkins is excited for the opportunity to work with information technology and public safety communication professionals and is committed to incorporating innovative technologies to enhance public safety,” the department said in a press release.

Throughout his career, Jenkins has served in a number of roles, including 12 years as an officer in the desert, Bay Area, Central Valley and Sierra Nevada Foothills regions. He has also held supervisory roles in three commands.

In 2016, Jenkins was promoted to captain and was tapped to lead the Collision Investigation Unit. In 2020, he was promoted to assistant chief with the Enforcement and Planning Division.
