CIO Profile: Fontana, Calif., IT Director Dennis Vlasich

Fontana, Calif., IT Director Dennis Vlasich

Fontana, Calif., is a city of 200,000 residents east of Los Angeles in San Bernardino County. Dennis Vlasich has been Fontana’s IT Director for eight years, has 22 direct reports and manages a budget of around $6 million.

Current projects include documents/records management, electronic signatures, payroll time entry and security system integration. While Vlasich has no current RFPs out, he will release bids later this year for a recreation management system and forms management.

Vlasich says he wishes vendors would not call him to have an engineer talk to him about their product. “As a public agency,” he said, “we need to limit our focus to projects that:

  • Address an identified problem or need (i.e. no solutions in search of a problem);
  • Provide an identifiable return on investment (i.e. more than just "soft dollars"); and
  • Have been proven in the field (i.e. we can talk to other agencies who are successfully using the solution).”
Vlasich says the best way to contact him is by email: dvlasich@fontana.org
