Cleek: FTB Online Services Use Increase in 2012

The Franchise Tax Board (FTB) received over 13.5 million e-filed returns last year (nearly 80% of total returns). But did you know e-file is not the only way Californians are able to electronically conduct business with the FTB? In addition to e-file, FTB provides many convenient and efficient taxpayer online services. Some beneficial services include:

• File a return with CalFile or ReadyReturn.
• Check refund status.
• Make payments.
• Request a payment plan.
• Update address information.
• View account information, such as balance due or payment credit.

During 2012, California taxpayers initiated about 5 million uses of FTB online services and nearly $14.5 billion in online payments! This increase in self-serve online services use—25 percent since 2011 and over 80 percent since 2010—demonstrates taxpayer savings and government’s good use of technology.
