In an email, Cornish briefly explained the transition and noted that his last day as the state health insurance marketplace's CIO was June 1.

Cornish came to Covered California in August 2020 from the University of California’s Office of the President, where he served as chief technology officer. Prior to that, he served as CIO for the UC Berkeley Haas School of Business.

In addition to his roles supporting IT operations in higher education, Cornish has also held a number of other top leadership positions with organizations such as Kaiser Permanente, Aravo Solutions, Monster Cable and Bechtel.

The posting for Cornish’s former role was published June 11 and closes July 3. More information about the department’s CIO role is available in the job posting and duty statement.
